Brrrrr!
Although it's a balmy 45 degrees today, this past week has been quite cold and we have experienced the lowest temperatures in 4 years. Last Tuesday morning, when it was -1, I raised the blinds so Eleanor could watch me take the dogs outside (she insists on watching every morning). When I raised the blinds, I saw something white on the window (see below). My first reaction as an epidemiologist was to think that some powdered chemical had seeped in through the windows and was collecting on our windows. So, like any good and curious epidemiologist concerned about chemical exposures, I touched it. :)

And....it was ICE! The condensation that collects on this part of our window (yes, I know, we need new windows) was actually frozen because the metal window conducted the cold outside air. Needless to say, later on that night, when I couldn't see Eleanor in her bed on the video monitor and rushed upstairs to find her, she was buried - head and all - under all her blankets and covers.

Last Saturday was not quite that cold - only about 20 degrees - so we went sledding!

Daddy and Eleanor walking through our neighborhood to reach the sledding hill.

Ready, set.....

...GO!!!!

Our little daredevil loved it.

No snow outing would be complete without a snowball fight! Adam taught her how to make and throw a snowball.

And if you teach Eleanor to make a snowball, she will want to bring it home.
And of course the only way to carry a snowball home is with one hand in your pocket. :)

Eleanor's movie night

Eleanor does not watch TV, except for when we occasionally have Wheel of Fortune on. For some reason, the rhythmic turning of the wheel and all that clapping has her attention. So we turn it off. :)

But we have not introduced cartoons or even educational programming.

However, Adam and I decided that Eleanor could watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the 1960s cartoon version). She loves her dog "Max" and since this was (is!) my favorite Christmas movie, it seemed appropriate. So, just a week before Christmas, Eleanor and I settled down on our living room floor with Santa cookies, milk, Max, and the movie.

I think she enjoyed the experience (sitting on the floor with Momma, cookies, Max, etc.) more than the actual movie. I am not sure she watched any of the cartoon, but we sure did enjoy it!
