You Little O Wife

My mom came for a visit 2 weeks ago. I was so happy to see my mom, and Eleanor was so happy to see her Honey.

 

 

They spent lots of time reading...

 



 

...and since she has been gone Eleanor has really enjoyed the hand made A-B-C book that Honey made for her.

But while she was here, we tried to find fun "fall" activities.

Most importantly, a visit to the apple orchard for pumpkins, cider, and doughnuts!

 



We also visited the Farm Center at Kensington MetroPark. A ranger showed Eleanor how to feed the goats maple leaves (apparently goats love maple leaves-- who knew??) and Eleanor loved feeding them...

 

...she also loved the donkey. But donkeys don't appreciate maple leaves like goats do.

My mom is a great partner for "projects" and I always have an overly-ambitious list of stuff for us to do during her too-short visits.

This trip, one of our main objectives was to make Eleanor's Halloween costume: a peacock.

I had been gathering materials for weeks, and my mom and I finished a bit of shopping for supplies and worked on the assembly.

Shortly after my mom left, the glue was dry and I put Eleanor's costume on her for the first time.

Needless to say, she was less than impressed with the peacock.

After these tears subsided, she said "Momma. Peacock off."

Then, last weekend, a week after the first peacock costume attempt was not quite as successful as I'd hoped, we went to Greenfield Village with some friends. Greenfield Village is a historic village that is part of the Henry Ford museum. It houses some really unique old houses, like Edison's phonograph workshop, the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop, etc. Anyway, at Halloween, jack-o-lantern light a trail through the village for trick-or-treating.

And this second attempt at the peacock costume was quite a success!

The costume looks very "home made" but since we were in the dark we received many compliments!

My sweet little bird. :) She walked the whole way without complaint, her little feathers bobbing as she walked.
