Holiday Vacation Project

Our Michigan house came with these custom curtains and matching floor pillows in this awful fabric. It was this odd pattern of grape leaf camouflage in muted pastels....needless to say, not my first choice for decorating. The curtains came down immediately and we used them as painting drop cloths, but the floor pillows were adopted by Jake. You can see how awful this fabric is:

I love the concept of floor pillows, so I decided to recover them. I have my sewing machine (thanks, Grandma!!!) set up in the basement. I had every intention of making Christmas gifts for everyone and do all kinds of sewing projects here in Michigan, but I didn't have as much spare time as I had intended this semester. So, recovering the pillows became a holiday vacation project. Only one person will get a home made gift this year...maybe more next year if I start early!

I recovered the pillows in a chocolate brown upholstery chenille....and my little pillow connoisseur loved it immediately. They look so much better, don't you think?

It. is. finished. My semester, I mean! I just emailed my last assignment in tonight. So...three papers, two exams, and one small anxiety attack later (actually there might have been more than one...it's hard to tell), I am free to enjoy the holiday break. I just wanted to share my good news with everyone!

Jake and I are practically snowed in here. I have never seen so much snow in my entire life! It looks like we will enjoy a White Christmas this week.

I really didn't want to post anything until I was done with final exams and papers, and even though I still have one paper to finish yet, I couldn't resist posting these pictures.

Jake got a new coat (thanks, Grandma Beth!) in the mail. He stays nice and toasty when we're outside.

The weather report says we are only supposed to have 6-8 inches of snow fall today, but I think we've had much more. Normally our snow removal service does an excellent job of taking care of the walks and drives, but not today. They must have been overwhelmed by all the snow. Take a look at these pics from about 5 minutes ago.

Adam just got home (4:00am yesterday to 2:00pm today) from call all night to find me outside trying to shovel a path for Jake (he couldn't walk in the snow because it was too deep and was having trouble going "outside.") So Adam, still in his scrubs, cleared the walk and driveway.

Before he cleared the path you couldn't even see the steps.

That's 12 inches of snow! I used a ruler.

You can't tell from all the snow, but that's acutally supposed to be a driveway, sidewalk, porch, and front yard.

It's finals time, so my posting has been a bit less. But stay with me! I will post again soon. Only 10 days, 3 papers, and 2 exams to go...
